Michele Lasgoity,
Co-owner, Chateau Lasgoity

John Lasgoity and Michele Lasgoity, brother and sister, own and operate Chateau Lasgoity, a boutique winery located in Madera producing premium quality wines. Nestled amongst old, gnarled vines, the winery is located on the vineyard property that has been in their family since 1903. John, his wife, Alyson, and their three children, Julia, Claire and Paul, currently live in the original home which was built in 1906 and is just across the white rock driveway from the winery. Family and tradition play a big part in Chateau Lasgoity as John is the latest winemaker in a long line of winemakers. Their great-grandfather, Jean Ospital, and grandfather, Jean Lasgoity, made wine from local grapes for the family and their sheepherders for whom they provided bed and board. In fact, the family home has a cellar where the wine was stored during the warm summer months. Michele and John can still remember going into the cellar to taste their grandfather’s wine. The tradition moved full circle in 2000 with the creation of Chateau Lasgoity making premium quality wines from grapes raised with attentive care by their father, Mitch Lasgoity. The winery has a wine tasting room which is open Sat & Sun 1-5PM.

John Lasgoity was born and raised in Madera, California and received a BS degree from Cal Poly in Agriculture Business. He has worked in the family business since graduation, manages the farming that includes cotton and alfalfa and owns the sheep operation. John took his enology courses through the UC Davis Extension Service after he had graduated and was already working on the family ranch. He had been making wine for family for 14 years when he and his sister, Michele, started Chateau Lasgoity.

Michele Lasgoity was born and raised in Madera, California and received her BS and MBA from Santa Clara University. After working over 12 years in the Bay Area for Hewlett Packard, she returned with her family to Madera to work in the Lasgoity family agricultural business. Michele manages the beef cattle operation of her family’s business, owns beef stockers with her husband, and does the sales and administration duties for Chateau Lasgoity. She and her husband, Mark Peters, have two children, Christine and Eric.
